The Yonex Arcsaber 7 Play Badminton Racket is a superb all-round option for beginner and recreational players looking to develop their game with a racket that prioritises control and feel. Sitting in Yonex's control-focused Arcsaber family, the Play version makes the series' signature shuttle-hold technology accessible at an affordable price point — built around the concept of keeping the shuttle on the string bed for longer, giving you more time to direct your shots with confidence and accuracy.

With an even balance, hi-flex shaft and a lightweight 4U (83g) build, the Arcsaber 7 Play is genuinely versatile — comfortable attacking from the rearcourt, defending at the net, and driving through flat mid-court exchanges. The even balance keeps the racket feeling neutral and easy to manoeuvre in any direction, making it a particularly good choice for players who play doubles and need quick reactions as well as solid rearcourt presence. The hi-flex shaft assists power generation for players still developing their swing technique, bending on the backswing and snapping back at contact to add pace without requiring a fast or aggressive action.

The frame is built 10mm longer than standard for increased reach and improved shuttle contact time, and supports string tension up to 27 lbs — giving you a useful range to adjust as your game develops. Start lower for more power assistance and increase tension over time for greater control and snap on your shots.

Isometric™ - Yonex's signature square frame shape increases the sweet spot by 7% compared to a conventional round frame, delivering greater forgiveness and consistency on off-centre hits — ideal for players still building accuracy and timing.

Enhanced Arcsaber Frame - A unique frame structure with varying levels of flex — stiffer at the top and bottom to reduce unwanted twisting at impact, with softer, more flexible sides to extend shuttle contact time and improve directional accuracy.

Control-Assist Bumper - A connected grommet piece at the top of the frame containing T-Anchor micro-tetrapods that lock onto the vertical strings, reducing unwanted string movement and improving shot accuracy on every contact.

Slim Shaft - A slimmer shaft profile reduces air resistance during your swing, making the racket faster to handle and easier to position quickly during defensive play and fast net exchanges.

Badminton Rackets Buying Guide

The key question to ask firstly is what style of player are you, or what type of player do you want to become?

As a general guide for your playing style below is the kind of racket you'll want to look at purchasing:

In simple terms is means this:
Player with Explosive Backswing Hitting = Stiffer Shaft needed as it'll unload faster for more power.
Player with Slower Backswing Hitting = More Flexible Shaft needed so that it'll unload fully at impact.

If you're still unsure what to choose for yourself, we'd recommend going for a medium flex badminton racket to minimise the chances of choosing incorrectly what's right for you.

Weight:

Weight can make a real difference to reaction speeds, and power behind the hit of a shuttle. Too light a racket and it won't go far or powerful enough. However too heavy a racket and you'll find you'll be reacting too slow in fast flat rallies, where reaction speed is everything.:

Most rackets are weighted around 3U (85-89g) or 4U (80-84g), this is because it's a good weight balance for players to hit hard and also be able to react fast too.:

Typically singles players will use heavier rackets 3U (85-89g), this provides the player with more stability and accuracy, with a little more weight for power behind it, without compromising on racket speed too much, as quick racket head speed isn't needed as much in the singles game:

Doubles players however will usually want lighter rackets, the most popular weight for this being 4U (80-84g), this is because the Badminton Racket will offer more speed and quicker reactions in around the net and for defence against smashes.:

Racket Strings Used & Tension:

Again like the grip, this is customisable on any racket. However do look out for racket tension ranges on the product as this could potentially limit your ability to have the racket strung at a desired tension.:
