The Yonex Astrox 99 Pro White Tiger (4U) is a pure power racket and a complete re-design of the previous Astrox 99.

Designed in conjuction with World #1 and 2 x World Champion Kento Momota, the Astrox 99 Pro offers the heaviest swing weight of any in the ASTROX series for devastating rear court power.

POWER ASSIST BUMPER, a tungsten-infused nylon bumper, has been added to the top of the frame for increased swingweight and power.

ROTATIONAL GENERATOR SYSTEM offers counterbalanced weight distribution, with weight optimised in key areas of the racket for max control and shot transition.

NAMD, Yonex's revolutionary and premier graphite material is now present in both the shaft and the racket head.

VOLUME CUT RESIN, an epoxy resin that has been used to construct the entire frame of the racket, is lighter in weight and has excellent strength, allowing it to support the new extra slim shaft.

Yonex have however, worked hard to ensure that all the extra headweight does not come at the expense of speed and have introduced an EXTRA SLIM SHAFT and fully recessed frame.

Yonex have also refined the ISOMETRIC HEADSHAPE, for greater forgiveness and an optimised sweetspot. This is combined with a new stringing pattern, borrowed from the Astrox 88S, that looks to offer more control and longer shuttle hold.

Please be aware that Yonex do not supply a case with this racket

BUYING GUIDE

Badminton Rackets Buying Guide

The key question to ask firstly is what style of player are you, or what type of player do you want to become?

  1. Power Attacking
  2. All Round
  3. Fast Reactions to Rallies
  4. Control and Touch, by moving players around the court to create space

As a general guide for your playing style below is the kind of racket you'll want to look at purchasing:

Playing Style Racket Balance Racket Flexibility Racket Weight
Power Attacking Head Heavy Stiff 85g – 89g (3U)
All Round Balanced Medium 80g – 84g (4U)
Speed & Fast Reactions Head Light Medium 79g or below (5U and up)
Control & Touch Head Light Hi Flex 79g or below (5U and up)

In simple terms is means this:
Player with Explosive Backswing Hitting = Stiffer Shaft needed as it'll unload faster for more power.
Player with Slower Backswing Hitting = More Flexible Shaft needed so that it'll unload fully at impact.

If you're still unsure what to choose for yourself, we'd recommend going for a medium flex badminton racket to minimise the chances of choosing incorrectly what's right for you.

Weight:

Weight can make a real difference to reaction speeds, and power behind the hit of a shuttle. Too light a racket and it won't go far or powerful enough. However too heavy a racket and you'll find you'll be reacting too slow in fast flat rallies, where reaction speed is everything.:

Most rackets are weighted around 3U (85-89g) or 4U (80-84g), this is because it's a good weight balance for players to hit hard and also be able to react fast too.:

Typically singles players will use heavier rackets 3U (85-89g), this provides the player with more stability and accuracy, with a little more weight for power behind it, without compromising on racket speed too much, as quick racket head speed isn't needed as much in the singles game:

Doubles players however will usually want lighter rackets, the most popular weight for this being 4U (80-84g), this is because the Badminton Racket will offer more speed and quicker reactions in around the net and for defence against smashes.:

Racket Strings Used & Tension:

Again like the grip, this is customisable on any racket. However do look out for racket tension ranges on the product as this could potentially limit your ability to have the racket strung at a desired tension.:

For a full breakdown on strings and tensions, see our buying guide specifically on this.:

To put it simply however, if you're unsure what to choose when buying a racket you like, either go for the “Original Strings” option or “Stringers Professional Decision” for which we'll choose the string that best suits getting the maximum performance out of the racket for you.:

Brilliant, simply brilliant

Got it at 25lbs and it’s amazing, with this type of racket could most probably have them strung at 27 lbs.

Better than 100zz

I used almost all astrox rackets this is the best one for me, heavy head, stiff, great details on the appearance.

Perfect

I like head heavy rackets and I watched many reviews of this one, where people stated they felt it was very heavy. To me with this 4U I think it's perfect. I wouldn't want it any heavier as this is a great mix of speed and control. I had been playing with a lighter head racket and it actually gave me shoulder pain and I was missing the shuttle due to swinging too quick. I got the light racket to play doubles as I assumed I would be better off but I was wrong. This racket is perfect for me and can use it for doubles too with no problems. Definitely reccomend the BG80 power strings with this (mine are at 26lbs and feels amazing)
I have to give a massive thank you to the stringer at badminton HQ as this racket has a different hole pattern and can cause twisting if not done properly (the text on the string should read straight and not be twisted so for me it's BG80 power) and it can affect the life and effectiveness of the strings. But this came to me perfect so 5/5 for BadmintonHQ all round from ordering to delivery.
Hope this helps someone that's considering this racket with their decision. You won't be disappointed.
